Happiness

As I write this I am the happiest I have ever been. There are so many reasons for this but I think the core reason for my happiness since being here is because I am doing what I was made to do. In Mathew 22: 36-40 we see the Pharisees trying to stump Jesus with a trick question. One of them who was an expert in Jewish law went to Jesus and asked:

“Teacher, which is the greatest Commandment in the Law?” Jesus replies by saying “Love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.”

The Great Commission

Jesus does not give us a third most important commandment, however he does give us The Great Commission in Mathew 28: 18-20. This is given to us after the resurrection before Jesus ascended back into heaven.

“All Authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.”

Called to LOVE

These two passages clearly state three things which we are called to do. Three things that we were made to do.

  • Love God
  • Love each other
  • Go out and make disciples

It is not uncommon to go through life looking for something more. To never be content with where you are at. To never be truly happy. That is because true happiness comes from doing what we are made to do. From loving god, loving our neighbors, and therefore going out and making disciples.
